Xiaomi has announced a new smartphone in the mid-range tier called Xiaomi Redmi 5A which is the variant of the Redmi 5 smartphone and a successor to the Redmi 4A launched last year. The Redmi 5A comes with a metal unibody design, however, it doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colour options and is priced at 599 yuan (around $90). The sales of the device will start in the home country China today. There are no details available when this device will be available outside China.

The Redmi 5A features a 5-inch HD IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, 1000: 1 contrast ratio and 72% color gamut. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 425 processor with 500MHz Adreno 308 GPU and comes with 2GB of RAM with 16GB internal storage capacity that is further expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card slot. It runs on the Android 7.1 (Nougat) based MIUI 9 on top and it comes with Hybrid Dual SIMs which means you can use two sims or one sim+microsd card.
It features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF, LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture, 1080p video recording and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is backed up by a 3000mAh battery and we have support for several connectivity options which include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS + GLONASS and it also comes with an infrared sensor. It measures 140.4 x 70.1 mm x 8.35 mm and weighs 137 grams.
Xiaomi has recently launched the Redmi Note 5A which comes with slightly upgraded specs than the Redmi 5A. The Redmi Note 5A has features like a 5.5-inch HD 2.5D curved glass display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with Adreno 308 GPU or Snapdragon 435 with Adreno 505 GPU, 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM + 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage options with all supporting expandable storage up to 128GB with microSD card.
