After Europe a few days back, Samsung has started pushing the new Android 9.0 Pie update to the Galaxy S8 units in India starting today itself as one of our employees is getting the update. The brings new build number G950FXXU4DSBA / G955FXXU4DSBA is more than 1.6GB in size. The new update not only brings the new Android 9.0 Pie update to the S8 units but also brings the new Samsung One UI and the February security patch for the devices. The Galaxy S8 Plus units in the country are also receiving the updated OTA. The new update brings visual changes with One UI and also brings several new changes and enhancements.
The One UI update comes with changes including new adaptive themes for the keyboard that change based on the app you’re currently using, new Night mode, Content, settings, and other information have been reorganized, Users can now reply to messages directly in the notification panel, Image thumbnails added in message notifications, new Unicode 11.0 emojis, floating keyboard for all apps, performance modes are streamlined and integrated into power saving modes, Edge panel for device maintenance is discontinued, Always On Display updates, new settings menu, Samsung DeX updates, Bixby improvements and many other important features and updates as well.
To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S8 was announced back in 2017 with a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display with 1440×2960 pixels resolution, 570ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The new Galaxy S8 will be powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 GPU or octa-core Samsung Exynos 9 Series 8895 processor with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU.
It comes with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and comes with 64GB inbuilt storage and MicroSD card expandable storage with up to 256GB storage. It runs on the Android 7.0 (Nougat) OS out of the box and will support dual SIM. It features a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/1.7 aperture and an 8-megapixel auto focus front-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture.
It is backed up by a 3000mAh battery and comes with wireless charging and fast charging support. It comes with connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5GHz), VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth v 5.0 (LE up to 2Mbps), GPS with GLONASS, USB 2.0, MST and NFC. It measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0 mm and weighs 155 grams. The Galaxy S8 comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. It comes with several sensors including an Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Proximity Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Iris Sensor and Pressure Sensor.
