Chinese Xiaomi has just announced the new smartphone in the Xiaomi Mi series with the name Xiaomi Mi Play. Going by the name of the phone, it gives a feel of a gaming phone, but there is nothing anything like that, as it’s just a mid-range smartphone from the company that comes with a MediaTek processor and comes with 4GB of RAM compared to up to 8GB RAM and Snapdragon 845 processor in other gaming phones these days. The Xiaomi Mi Play features a glossy glass-like finish on the back with a gradient finish and comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

It is priced at 1099 yuan (around $159) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage and is up for pre-order in the homeland of China from today, whereas the sales begin tomorrow.

The Xiaomi Mi Play features a 5.84-inch Full HD+ 19:9 2.5D curved glass display, 1500:1 contrast ratio with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and 2280×1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core (ARM Cortex A53) MediaTek Helio P35 12nm Processor with 680 MHz IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It comes with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM with 64GB of inbuilt (eMMC 5.1) storage that is further expandable up to 256GB with the help of a microSD card. It runs on Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI 10 on top and comes with Dual SIM support.

It also comes with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with AI Beautify and AI portrait modes. It has a 3000mAh battery and comes with connectivity options such as Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac(2.4 /5GHz) Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C. It has a fingerprint sensor on the rear side. It measures 147.76×71.89×7.8mm and weighs 150 grams.

The latest Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 was announced in October with a 6.39-inch Full HD+ 19:5:9 display with 103.8% NTSC Color Gamut, 60000:1 contrast ratio, 600 nits brightness, and 2340 × 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by the 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 64-bit 10nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with multiple variants with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM + 128GB (UFS 2.1) inbuilt storage, 8GB LPDDR4x RAM with 128GB / 256GB (UFS 2.1) inbuilt storage and 10GB LPDDR4x RAM with 256GB (UFS 2.1) inbuilt storage. It runs on Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI 10 out of the box and comes with Dual SIM support.
