Taiwan’s HTC has recently launched two new flagships HTC U11+ and HTC U11 Life with Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box for the U11+ and Android One OS for the U11 Life smartphone. Now, the company has started rolling the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the HTC U11 units from today which is a surprise for most of the HTC fans in Taiwan.
As the update has arrived in the home country, we can expect it will soon be available for global units. The update for the device was spotted by a Twitter user which comes with 1.33GB size and also brings the November security patch for the device. It also bumps the build number of the device to 2.31.709 and also comes with VoWifi service for Chunghwa Telecom users in Taiwan.
The new update comes with lots of new features and improvements including Background limits, Notification channels, snooze notifications, a redesigned settings menu, a new file manager, new background restriction for battery improvements, Snooze individual notifications, new gestures for fingerprint, a new battery menu, Rescue party, notification badges on the home screen, Autofill APIs, Picture in Picture display, Adaptive icons, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Support for high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs such as LDAC codec, Companion device pairing, Keyboard navigation, Audio API for Pro Audio, WebView enhancements, Java 8 Language APIs and runtime optimizations and many other improvements as well.
To recall, the HTC U11 was launched with a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 2.45GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU and has multiple variants with 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage (UFS 2.1), 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage with both supporting expandable storage up to 2TB with microSD card. It runs on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with HTC Sense UI and will support single or Hybrid dual-SIM options. It also comes with HTC Edge Sense and HTC Sense Companion features as well.
It features a 12-megapixel HTC UltraPixel 3 rear camera with 1.4μm pixel, dual LED flash, f/1.7 aperture, OIS, UltraSpeed Autofocus, RAW capture, 4K video recording with 3D Audio, Hi-Res stereo recording, Acoustic Focus, 120fps slow-mo video at 1080p and features a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p video recording. It is backed up by a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and supports 4G VoLTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 connectivity options and also comes with water and dust resistant ratings (IP57).
Other notable features of the device include USB-C audio, HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition, 3D Audio recording with 4 microphones and Hi-Res audio certification. A fingerprint sensor is available on the front panel home button. It measures 153.9 x 75.9 x 7.9mm and weighs 169 grams.
