At the IFA event in Berlin today, Motorola finally launched their new smartphone and the flagship from the Moto X series, finally. The device was long rumoured and was seen in leaked images and benchmarks. The Moto X4 is priced at 399 Euros (around $475) and will be available in Europe starting in September followed by other markets, including the U.S., later this fall in Super Black and Sterling Blue colour options.

The main function of the Moto X4 includes a dual rear camera and it comes with a fingerprint scanner on front front-facing physical home button. The device comes with IP68 certification, which means it’s a water-resistant smartphone and it has a 3D rear contoured design with an anodized aluminum frame.

Moto X4 specs

The new Motorola Moto X4 features a 5.2-inch Full HD LTPS IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 630 14nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 508 GPU. It comes in two variants with one having 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage and the second one having 4GB of RAM with 64GB internal storage with both variants supporting expandable storage up to 2 TB with a microSD card. It runs on the Android 7.1 (Nougat) OS out of the box and also comes with a Dual SIM option.

The Moto X4 features a dual rear camera with a 12-megapixel camera with Dual Autofocus Pixel sensor, PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, 1.4um pixel size along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle secondary camera with 120-degree field of view, f/2.2 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, dual-tone LED flash, 4K video recording. It also has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and 1um pixel size. It is backed up by a 3000mAh battery and it comes with Turbo Charging support that can give six hours of power in just 15 minutes of charge.

The device is water and dust-resistant with IP68 ratings and has a fingerprint sensor on the physical home button. The device comes with connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C, 3.5mm audio jack, Front-ported speaker and 3-Mics. It measures 148.35 x 73.4 x 7.99 mm and weighs 163 grams.

Motorola has also launched the new 6GB RAM variant for this device for the Indian market. It has the same features as the regular Moto X4 but comes with Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box which is the latest version of the Android operating system. In India, the Moto X4 is priced at Rs. 20999 (around $321) for 3GB RAM with a 32GB internal storage option while the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage options are priced at Rs. 22,999. It comes in Super Black and Sterling Blue colour options and it will be available for sale in the country via Flipkart with several offers.

Motorola also launched the Android One variant of the Moto X4 smartphone. The new Android One variant comes with similar features to the regular Moto X4 but it only comes with Android One that grants to offer at least two years of OS upgrades. The Moto X4 Android One edition will be available in the US via Project Fi’s network. It is priced at $399 and comes with Super Black and Sterling Blue colour options.

The Moto X4 has been spotted listed on the GFXBench database confirming some of the specifications of the device, however, the listing doesn’t confirm the dual rear camera setup for the device. The device is listed with a smaller display and has the latest Android version out of the box. The GFXBench listing for the Moto X4 confirms the model number XT1789 and is listed with a 5-inch full-HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by the octa-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor along with the Adreno 508 GPU.

It comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage capacity and is expected to feature a MicroSD card expandable storage slot with up to at least 128 GB of storage. The GFXBench listing further confirms Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS is out of the box and might support dual-SIMs. It features a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, PDAF, UHD recording and other features, it also comes with a selfie-focused 16-megapixel front-facing camera as well. The device also comes with 4G VoLTE, 3G, WiFI, GPS, Bluetooth and other connectivity options as well.
