Samsung has launched a new variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone with the name Samsung Galaxy S8 Active that comes with a shatterproof display and has military standards MIL-STD-810G. The device comes with a bigger 5.8-inch display with a shatter shield and a water and dust-resistant body. It comes with a fingerprint scanner on the rear side just like the Galaxy S8 series and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.

The Galaxy S8 Active is available for pre-orders and will be available for sale starting August 11 in the US via AT&T carrier priced at $28.34 for 30 months, which makes it $850 in total. It will be available with Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold colour options.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Active features a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with 2960 × 1440 pixels, 570ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU and comes with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM with 64GB of inbuilt storage (UFS 2.1) that is expandable with microSD card. It runs on the Android Nougat OS out of the box and supports a single SIM. It measures 152.14x 74.9×9.9mm and weighs 207 grams.
It features a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/1.7 aperture, 1/2.55″ sensor size, OIS, 1.4µm pixel size and an 8-megapixel auto focus front-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture, 1/3.6″ sensor size, 1.22µm pixel size and 80-degree wide-angle lens. It is backed up by a 4000mAh battery with fast charging and supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4/5GHz), VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth v 5.0 (LE up to 2Mbps), GPS with GLONASS, USB 3.1, NFC, MST connectivity options. It comes with several sensors including an Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Proximity Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Iris Sensor and Pressure Sensor. It is fully water and dust-resistant (IP68) and comes with MIL-STD-810G standards.
Galaxy S8 Active at FCC
The device has also received FCC approval in the US which confirmed that it will be available exclusively via the carrier AT&T in the country. The FCC approval confirms the model number SM-G892A for the device and the documents also come with a back panel view of the device that matches with the previous “Active” variants of the Samsung Galaxy S series flagships. The FCC documents come with the usual tests with LTE, Bluetooth, WiFi etc but there are no images of the device available in the FCC documents. The leaked back panel shows an AT&T logo at the bottom and also confirms a fingerprint scanner near the camera just like it’s available on the Galaxy S8.
Galaxy S8 Active Geekbench
The Galaxy S8 Active was also spotted listed by the benchmark website GFXBench confirming most of its rumored specifications. It was listed with a 5.4-inch or 5.8-inch full-HD display with 2008 x 1080 pixels resolution and will not have curved edges like the flagship Galaxy S8 pair of phones. It will be powered by the 2.3GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor that also comes with the Adreno 540 GPU.
It will have 4Gb of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage capacity that might also be expandable via a MicroSD card slot. It runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat OS out of the box and will support a Hybrid SIM slot. It features a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. No other details about the device were available with the GFXBench listing of the device.
