Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 flip phone launched in Korea

Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 is finally here. A couple of days back, we told you about a new Samsung flip phone getting approval from Chinese TENAA with an SM-G1650 model number and revealing the specifications and images of the device. Now the Korean-based company has launched the device as Galaxy Folder 2 in Korea which was already launched last year and is available for sale in China currently.

This new flip phone comes with a metal body design and has mid-range specifications. It comes with Black and Burgundy colour options and is priced at 297,000 Korean won (around $260). We can also expect now that the company will release it soon in more regions.

The Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 features a 3.8-inch WVGA display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor with Adreno 308 GPU. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity that is further expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card slot. The TENAA listing however listed 3GB of RAM which confirms that the 3GB variant of the device might also be available in some regions. It runs on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out of the box and supports Dual SIMs as well.

It features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and f/1.9 aperture and we also have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture. It is backed up by a 1,950mAh battery and supports 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and other standard connectivity options as well. The Flip phone measures 122 x 60.2 x 15.4mm and weighs 160 grams.

At TENAA, the Samsung SM-G1650 was spotted with a 3.8-inch TFT curved glass display with 800 × 480 pixels resolution and comes powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. It comes with 2GB and 3GB RAM with 16GB/32GB inbuilt storage capacity which is further expandable up to 256GB with the help of a MicroSD card slot. It runs on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out of the box and is expected to support Dual SIMs.

It features an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It is backed up by a 1950mAh battery and connectivity options it supports include 4G LTE with VoLTE, 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and other options as well. The device comes with a T9 standard physical keyboard. It measures 122 × 60.2 × 16.1 mm and weighs 160 grams. Colour options include Black colour.

Another model for Galaxy Folder 2 Flip phone with SM-G9298 model number was spotted at TENAA with dual 4.2-inch AMOLED full HD displays with 1920 × 1080 pixel resolution, a 2.15GHz quad-core processor that might be the Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of inbuilt storage capacity, expandable MicroSD card storage with up to 256GB storage capacity, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out of the box, a 12-megapixel rear LED flash camera along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2300mAh battery, connectivity options includes 4G voLTE, 3G, 2g, Bluetooth, WiFi, a fingerprint scanner on the rear side below the rear camera lens and black colour option. It measures 127.7 × 61.4 × 15.87 mm and weighs 234 grams.

Samsung SM-G929 at TENAA

Surprisingly, Samsung launched the smartphone with the name Samsung SM-G9298 in China and was briefly listed on the Samsung China website with full specifications details and images of the flip phone. The device is listed with a Black colour option. It features a dual display and has a fingerprint scanner available on the rear side. It was launched with specifications that were available in its TENAA listing. It features a 3D glass and has a full metal design, it also comes with a Multi-function hotkey in the keyboard and also supports wireless charging.

It features a dual display with 4.2-inch full HD Super AMOLED dual displays on both internal and external sides with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor with Adreno 530 GPU instead of the Snapdragon 835 SoC. The Samsung SM-G9298 flip phone comes with the same 4GB RAM option with 64GB of internal storage capacity which is also expandable up to 256GB with the help of a microSD card. The official listing of the device doesn’t mention the Android version but it might be running the Android Marshmallow OS as we saw in the TENAA listing but might ship with Android Nougat. It also comes with support for hybrid dual SIMs.

The camera department of this premium flip phone includes a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, 1.4μm pixels and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera having an f/1.9 aperture. It has the same 2300mAh battery with Fast Charging support and supports connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS + GLONASS and NFC A fingerprint sensor is available on the rear side and it also comes with heart rate sensor. It measures 130.2 x 62.6 x 15.9mm and weighs 235 grams.
