After teasing the new Moto Z2 series teaser on Weibo, Motorola has finally launched the 2nd Gen Moto Z Play smartphone known as Moto Z2 Play which has some upgraded features and a downgraded battery from its predecessor.

The Moto Z2 Play is priced at $499 unlocked in the US and will go on sale in the country this Summer. No details are available when it will be available outside the US. The new Moto Z2 Play comes with a Moto Voice Assistant and also comes with Moto Mods support. This device features a metal unibody design instead of glass and will be available with Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour options.

The Moto Z2 Play comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and 1080×1920 pixels resolution and is powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor. it comes with two variants with one having 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage capacity while the second one having 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage capacity. The device will also have expandable storage with a microSD card with up to 2TB of storage. It runs on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box and will have dual SIM support in some regions.
The Moto Z2 Play features a 12-megapixel rear camera with a colour correlated temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash, a 1.4-micron pixel sensor, f/1.7 aperture, laser and dual autofocus lens. it also comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture, wide-angle lens and a front dual-LED CCT flash. It comes with a 3000mAh battery instead of the 3510mAh battery seen on the Moto Z Play and it comes with a TurboPower charger that can provide 50 percent of charge in just 30 minutes. It is a water-repellent smartphone with nano-coating.
The battery according to the company can deliver up to 30 hours of mixed usage. It comes with It sports a 3.5mm jack and comes with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C (3.1), a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C and FM radio support as well. it also comes with sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. It measures 156.2×76.2×5.99mm and weighs 145 grams.
The new Moto Z2 Play comes with new Moto Mods support including the new Moto Power Pack that costs $49.99 and brings an additional 2200mAh battery that can deliver additional power for up to 16 hours. It comes with a 72-gram weight and will be available with black and white colour options. Another Turbo Power Pack Moto Mod is also available with a 3490mAh additional battery with fast charging support that can charge the phone up to 50 percent in just 20 minutes and is priced at $79.99.
The company has also launched a Wireless Charging Style Shell that is priced at $39.99. A new JBL SoundBoost 2 Moto Mod with kickstand is also available priced at $79.99 and is also Splash proof. Lastly, a Moto GamePad Moto mod is also available priced at $79.99.
Motorola also launched the Moto Z2 Play in the UK where it is available for pre-orders via the official Motorola website and is priced at £379. The shipping of the device will start this July 14th in the country and the device is available with Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour options on the official Motorola UK website. A user on Instagram also posted the full unboxing images from the Moto Z2 Play and has also confirmed the specifications of the device.
The leaked retail box of the device confirmed that the Moto Z2 Play will feature a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and will be powered by a 2.2GHz GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The leaked images also confirm the new Moto mod called Moto Snaps for the device that hints towards a better camera. The images also confirm 4GB RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage capacity. The device comes with a 3000mAh battery with Turbo power fast charging. It features a 12-megapixel dual autofocus camera on the rear side with laser autofocus.
The Moto Z2 Play listing at TENAA revealed the model number XT1710-11 and was listed with a 5.5-inch full-HD OLED display with 1920 × 1080 pixel resolution. Another listing for the Moto Z2 Play with model number XT1710-08 was spotted listed with a 5.49-inch full-HD OLED display and other specs. Motorola also started teasing its next official event for June 1st in Brazil, recently.
